MOBY TEC workshop with Pomfort and Reeltime in Vienna

Last Saturday marked the first workshop hosted by the newly founded MOBY TEC GmbH in Vienna. The focus of the event was on new approaches to Video Assist software. Guest speaker Wanja Nolte from Pomfort presented their Video Assist software Reeltime and engaged in an in depth discussion with a diverse group of industry professionals.

What was initially planned as a concise ninety minute presentation quickly evolved into an open exchange lasting more than three hours. The strong attendance and active participation highlighted the growing demand for practical, forward looking solutions tailored to real world set environments. A relaxed get together with hands on demonstrations followed, allowing for deeper technical conversations and practical exploration.

The workshop focused on concrete production requirements. Discussions centered on where traditional Video Assist workflows reach their limits and how Reeltime introduces new ways of addressing these challenges. A key aspect was the collaboration between departments. Topics included effective cooperation with DITs and sound departments, suitable hardware choices, and workflows that support communication and efficiency across the entire crew.

Latency of video signals was a recurring and central topic throughout the evening. In complex production setups, latency has a direct impact on communication, timing, and creative decision making. Reeltime stood out in this regard by demonstrating high speed performance, flexibility, and reliability, offering a clear perspective on where modern Video Assist systems are heading.

The workshop was hosted and sponsored by MOBY TEC GmbH with additional support from ARRI, cmotion, Upgrade Innovations, and the association KameraSchwestern. As MOBY TEC’s first workshop, it set the tone for a series of future events covering a wide range of technical and workflow related topics.

The evening clearly demonstrated the value of direct dialogue between software development, technical expertise, and on set practice. Not as a product presentation, but as a shared effort to rethink workflows and make film production environments more efficient, robust, and future proof.
